Floor & Wall Paintings: Alexis Beucler
"Marked Lands" was a collaborative exhibition between Laura O'Connor, Maria Ojeda, and myself. Painting, cardboard and clay, fiber and paper, all come together in an exploration of infrastructures of self and civilization.
I primarily focused on the amorphous oil paintings in the center installation. In this aerial view of a landscape, there are moments of industrialization with houses, factories, and docksides. These moments are ambiguous and can be universalized throughout history. The geography of this landscape is inspired by the hot Floridian sun and scared agricultural lands of the south.
